If you're visiting our Camp-Resort this season, you'll probably need a few suggestions for things to do outside of our East Texas campground! With all that we have to offer, you won't need to leave our Piney Woods campground unless you're itching to explore the surrounding area! Tyler and neighboring towns have plenty of options for family-friendly things to do. Here is a mix of 10 things to do in East Texas to keep in mind for your next stay with us!

Jefferson Historical Museum

The Jefferson Historical Museum is perfect for those looking for a learning experience when it comes to things to do in East Texas. Included among the impressive collections are Civil War artifacts, antique furniture, tools and weapons, rare china, Caddo Indian relics, and several of Sam Houston’s historic papers. This museum is open everyday from 9:30AM - 4:30PM.
 

Ellen Trout Zoo

Some of the most fun things to do in East Texas is going to a zoo. Head over to the Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin, TX. The zoo spans over 15 acres and features more than 800 animals from over 130 species. Check out the animals, and other attractions such as a miniature train! Ticket prices are $8/adults and $4/children. 
 

East Texas Arboretum & Botanical Society

Immerse yourself in nature by not only camping in East Texas but visiting the East Texas Arboretum & Botanical Society. This garden is located in Athens, TX and includes 100 acres of wooded beauty, trees, flowers, nature trails, attractions, historical buildings, and wildlife! Tickets are $5/adult and $2/child.

Out of all the things to do in East Texas, this may be one of the most important. Check out Brisket Love and enjoy some of the best BBQ around! From a classic brisket and sausage, to amazing sides, this restaurant has everything you need for a taste of Texas favorite food!

Cafe del Rio is known for is Tex-Mex flavor and lively atmosphere. There are actually a couple locations around East Texas including Lufkin and Beaumont. Cafe del Rio offers a menu filled with delicious dishes like sizzling fajitas, cheesy enchiladas, and flavorful tacos.

As far as restaurants in East Texas goes, you are going to want to try this Beaumont treasure. Caddo Lake

Caddo Lake is a must when it comes to things to do in East Texas. Located right on the Texas/Louisiana border, guests can visit the lake's maze of bayous, sloughs, and wetlands by kayaking, canoeing, or taking a guided boat tour. From there, you will be able to see the famous trees draped in Spanish moss. There is a current fee of $4/adults and free of charge for kids 12 and under.
 

Cherokee Trace Drive-Thru Safari

Have the best camping in East Texas experience with a stop at the Cherokee Trace Drive-Thru Safari located in Jacksonville, TX. Visitors can drive through 300-acre park and see a variety of exotic and endangered species including zebras, bison, camels, and more! Fees are $24/adults, $17/children, and free for children under 2.
 

Tyler Rose Garden

Our campground is located in Tyler, TX which means we are just a short ride away from the Tyler Rose Garden. Explore 14 acres filled with over 32,000 rose bushes and 600 varieties. What is even better is admission is completely free making this the perfect outing for anyone looking to enjoy a budget-friendly adventure.
